The Lalit Chandigarh
For those of you who follow me on Instagram or Snapchat, you already know that I had recently visited The Lalit, Chandigarh with Naina for a fun and relaxing weekend getaway. We checked in on Friday and were back in Delhi on Monday. Why the weekend passed us by in such a hurry is a mystery to me but we did end up having the best time at The Lalit.
With immaculate service and hospitality, we were very well taken care of right from our check-in to our check-out. Day 1, we had lunch at the Indian restaurant ‘Baluchi’ where we were introduced to their spectacular in-house concept of ‘Naanery’ where they pair different types of Indian breads with different Indian wines! Loved it! Loved the breads and the accompanying chutneys even more – hello tasty carbs! We also tried the Dum Dum Gucchi – a Kashmiri mushroom dish, Dal Baluchi which is so heavenly and so heavy too! (No dinner for us after we gorged on the Dal Baluchi), some Nali Mutton (bone marrow) and Paneer (cottage cheese).
With their famous vodka gol-gappa cart just as you enter the restaurant.
Since I am not a fan of paan or kulfi I did not try the ‘Paan Kulfi’ at Baluchi but it is extremely famous and Naina seemed to be floored with the dessert so I’m guessing it’s a definite must-have for people who enjoy paan and Indian desserts.
After that it was snooze time where we spent hours in our comfy bed and decided not to have dinner. We ordered some light In-Room-Dining instead. And by light I mean we ordered dessert. And by dessert I mean we ordered chocolate ice-cream. (What happens in Chandigarh stays in Chandigarh right?) But you really must try their chocolate ice-cream, so tasty, not too sweet and has a hint of dark chocolate. Had so much of this stuff during our stay!
Next day we got to try the lovely breakfast spread which is so extensive! I always get confused with such large breakfast spreads and always end up going for what I always have anyway – fruits, eggs, nuts, maybe some muesli and green tea.
The breakfast is served in the 24×7 restaurant near the hotel lobby.
We then headed to the AMAZING spa at The Lalit, Chandigarh. It is one of the largest spas I have seen in hotels and also well lit with lots of mirrors. There are so many mirrors all around the property! I went for the Swedish massage and Naina, the deep tissue massage and we both got it done together in the couple’s massage room. 90 minutes of amaze-bliss followed by some yummy herbal tea with ginger, lemon and honey.
The spacious salon next to the Spa
Lunch was late and light – smoked salmon salad in the room. And ofcourse some chocolate ice-cream.
For dinner we chose ‘OKO’ the pan-asian restaurant at The Lalit. Obviously I went for the sushi and Naina got some pork belly. Their cosmos were a refreshing delight too! We ended dinner with the brilliant caramelised bananas over chocolate cake.
Being Saturday night, Kitty su, the nightclub at The Lalit was in full swing with DJ H. Dhami performing for the night. We went in to imbibe some of the crazy energy and decided to call it a night after a bit – the massages were too relaxing.
Woke up next morning fresh as a cucumber and went in for the even more elaborate Sunday brunch. Absolutely spoilt for choice and naturally, confused again. The aloo chat was yummy, so were the fried rice and even the mini samosas!
After brunch we spent some time by the pool and the well manicured lawns of the property. Sunday was spent relaxing around the property and in our room and packing to leave the next day in the evening. Here are more pics of our entire stay and lovely experience.
A special thank you to Manali for being so attentive to our needs and accompanying us during our experiences.
