Katz’s Delicatessen | NYC – I am not a Food Blogger

No, I am not a food blogger. Yes, I like taking photographs of my food (Mom tried really hard to teach me not to play with my food – sorry Mom!). And chances are, if I have taken a picture, it will end up on my blog, one way or another.

I have already mentioned Katz’s Deli on the blog HERE when I did an outfit shoot partially in front of it, because I love how retro & ‘New York’ the branding was, and also because Naina & I were living right next door to it! We spent an entire week in that Airbnb house of ours and still hadn’t actually eaten at Katz’s. Then on our last day at that Lower East Side apartment, after one too many suggestions we FINALLY decided to go inside the restaurant and try their iconic Pastrami Sandwiches before moving to our next Airbnb place. And YAAAS for that decision! There isn’t much to the sandwich really but sweet baby cow it’s delicious!!! (No offense to the vegetarians out there. You may not want to scroll down because I have some really tempting close-ups of the meat in the sandwich. It was THAT tasty.)

Honestly, before hearing about Katz’s, I didn’t even know what pastrami is (Like I said, not a food blogger). So what is Pastrami? It is actually an old method of preserving meat, before refrigeration came about. But now, it’s a fancy sandwich, which if you don’t eat at Katz’s while you’re in New York, you’re basically losing at life. No, I’m kidding, there is a lot more to eat, see and do in NYC but if you like pastrami and have googled it at any point in time, you might wanna try eating one here. Back to pastrami, it’s raw beef that is partially dried, highly seasoned and herbed and then smoked and steamed for your pleasure. The pastrami by Katz’s is supposed to be cured even more slowly and without any extra chemicals, water or additives. And by slower I mean almost a month!! And I basically snorted that sandwich in 5 minutes. Thank you Katz’s!

A tip for first timers, they only take cash. No cards! I also quite enjoyed the whole diner/deli neon signage inside the restaurant. But I do not like aereated drinks so didn’t order a coke or pepsi with the sandwich. Just lots and lots of pickles! Since I said already that I’m not a food blogger, I will now stop writing and let you enjoy some pics I took. Ta-daa!
