Uber – ing in Delhi
I tell you, nothing excites me more than the concept of travelling in an Audi A6 cab to my destination and paying just as much as any normal broke-ass cab (read Indicas etc). I think its got something to do with the whole Dilli-walla attitude, but I couldn’t really care less. Its a frikkin Audi A6! And its by UBER. Coz frankly I’m not aware of any other cab company that will charge you ₹ 640/- for a ride from Saket to The Park Hotel in CP in an Audi from their fleet (that is if they have any). I know its usually just about getting from point a to b when you’re booking a cab but what’s the harm if you get to #RideInStyle for the same cost.
Moving on. During Fashion Week (WIFW) both Naina & I were given the opportunity to experience the UBER way. We booked an Audi A6 from Saket to The Park where a party was being held in honour of Wendell Rodricks being awarded a Padma Shri. We both were pretty pooped being at Fashion Week all day and weren’t really in the mood to drive all the way. The cab arrived in about 25 minutes and we cruised our pretty faces to the party. Here are some shots from the night and our UBER experience.
It takes about 5 minutes to download, install the app and register yourself. You do need an active credit card from which the cab fare gets charged everytime you arrive at your destination in an UBER cab.
The app tells you how long the cab will take to reach you, its exact location on the map, when its about to reach and much more. That’s me waiting at the hotel for the cab home.
Naina & I in the car exploring the ‘Split Your Fare’ feature. That’s a brilliant idea. No need to carry cash and just decide how much you want to split with your friends. A tip would be to do this as early as possible though, coz once you’re drunk, you don’t really care how much money slips out your pocket 😉
UBER also has the feature of ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) where your friends or family know in how much time you will reach your destination and know the exact location of your cab on the map throughout your journey. A lot of trouble for the people who always say they are 5 minutes away and reach an hour later, but a lot of good from a safety point of view.
This was so fun! Can’t wait to use UBER again.
You also get a code that you can pass on to your friends when you sign up. It gives them about ₹ 500 credit if they join UBER too and use your code. You can use the code ” nainaco ” if you are signing up for the first time to get 2 rides with ₹ 500 off on each of them. The app is available for both Android & iOS.
