{ Akira Back } :: JW Marriott
Oh boy!! Two words…that summed up our incredible dinner at the newly opened Akira Back at the JW Marriott, Aerocity, New Delhi. So much awesome Korean cuisine literally left Naina & me out of breath. For those who don’t understand, that happens when you eat way way too much.
A fairly simple route very close to the airport, Akira Back is the namesake restaurant by Chef Akira Back, his first in India. A Japanese & Korean cuisine focussed place, its a very spacious and fabulous place to dine at. Romantic enough for couples and cool enough for business dinners too! With two levels, a huge wall of different sake, and two private dining areas, Akira back has recently obtained its alcohol serving license and is open to everyone.
Here is our dinner experience at Akira Back.
Started off with this Tuna Pizza and even though this was the first, and maybe not an authentic Japanese cuisine item, it went on to be my absolute favourite at this place! Best way to have it – Put one slice over the other face down & eat it like a sandwich. Fresh, light and unbelievably scrumptious.
The Yellowtail Jalapeno Carpaccio. Oh man! If its raw, its fish and its on my table. I WILL EAT IT. And enjoy it too. This was such a fabulous delicacy. Tangy, fleshy mouthfuls of flavour!
The Crispy Rice Tuna was cubes of rare tuna on pockets of crispy rice. A definite must try starter.
The Rock Shrimp was literally a bowl of shrimp popcorn doused in delicious aioli. Quite a large serving. Ideal for sharing between 3 persons. Gets finished in no time.
Hot Oil Seared Salmon. This was another huge favourite. Partly because it comprises of salmon and the rest because of the gorgeous silky juices it comes soaked it. The fresh flavours explode in your mouth.
What’s a trip to a Japanese restaurant without getting in on their sushi and sahimi. It was all very fresh and lovely and light. The portion sizes were refreshingly large and we found it extremely difficult to finish it all up.
Kobe Kogi Taco. This is another lovely spin on Korean cuisine and is a must try if you love beef and ofcourse tacos. Slightly on the sweet side so opt out if you don’t like your food to have any sweetness. I personally loved these babies.
Raw Octopus? Yes please! Slivers of octopus in a sweet and tangy green sauce. Definitely a refreshing break from the salty food we had tried up until now.
After all the starters and pretty much everything else, we only has space to split a main course dish between the two of us. We had the Sake Steamed Flounder. In a black bean soy, the fish was melt-in-your-mouth delicate and the sauce was by far the tastiest I’ve had! Didn’t leave any even after the fish was over.
Chocolate Peanut Bar with a Coconut Sorbet. A lovely light dessert, the coconut sorbet was smooth and so refreshing!
Before leaving we had to thank Chef Jason for giving such a fabulous menu to our dinner and being a compete sweetheart!
And no restaurant trip is complete without some antics in the ladies room!
All in all, drafting this post has pulled the memories of my taste buds and I couldn’t help but salivate while writing and editing the post. Definitely gonna plan another meal real soon at Akira Back.
Have you eaten here yet? I would love to know about your favourite dish here.
