DRVV SS’14 :: { The Real Girls’ Campaign }
When I met Dhruv Kapur of DRVV at the Chanel beauty store launch a while back and he told me that he wanted me to be a part of something for his upcoming collection, I said yes even without asking what exactly it would be. Because with Dhruv, you always know its going to be absolute fun and it will definitely be pushing some boundary or the other. And so it was!
Dhruv was doing a shoot for his “Real Girls’ Campaign” for his Spring Summer ’14 collection. Using real women/ girls instead of professional models to shoot his collection on. Styled by Santu Misra and shot by Aman Makkar, it was a super fun day of meeting some amazing women and trying very hard not to pose weird in front of the camera. Here are the shots and the lovely women from the shoot. Makeup & Hair by Shallu Chandla.

Me:
In today’s day and age of unreal expectations, body image issues, eating disorders, etc all encouraged by the majority of fashion power houses, magazines, etc, a concept like this should not only be welcomed with open arms, it should be applauded and celebrated and shared. Young girls and even grown up women are finding it more and more difficult to be confident with their natural bodies. While in India, the effect is still a bit shielded because of doting moms trying to feed their kids all the time but looking at our tendencies of aping the western culture like our life depends on it, its only a matter of time before the unhealthy trend of emaciated bodies being a picture of perfection catches on like wildfire here as well. Initiatives like this one, by designers and more people in the industry play a very important role of spreading a positive message, however small it may appear at the time. Real girls – comfortable and confident in their own skin.
That’s Dhruv’s gorgeous sister Dilkash Kapur. Look at those tresses!

Some classy stuff right there.
Interesting concept indeed – would have loved to be a part of it myself! 🙂 Btw, you and Naina are sisters, is it?
Yes Vidya, we are 🙂
I think the idea is great, the execution not so much. All the women in this campaign are gorgeous. However when you are talking of ‘real women’, how can you not have women who are on the curvier side. I wish designers would start experimenting with styles for the entire range of body types. No offence to you or to anyone else involved. The pictures are fab!
