Elements of Design-NIFT
Published Date: June 1st, 2009Category: Art, Design, Fashion College, fashion
This was one of my personally loved modules in college. Tons of fun, great rivers of ideas flowin in lotsa directions, exchange of ideas, super funky vibes in the shabbiest, dowdiest basement classroom ever and most important, no track of time going by.lol.
Our very fun, learned, respected and overall wonderful professor was Mr. Ebenezer Sunder Singh. Artist by profession. His work is even up in the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi which is super cool. Ofcourse since he was not a permanent faculty and was so off-beat in nature, his module had to be a blast.
Elements of design mainly introduced us to the concept of design as a whole starting from lines, dots, circles, shapes, colors, primary, secondary, perspective, positive negative space and how to play around with all these aspects or ‘elements’ of design.
Some of my work created during this module: This is all paper, poster paints and pen.
THE SPIRAL CIRCLE

We were required to create a shape out of another shape using positive and negative space. In black n white.
UNTITLED-I

We were required to paint a still life of our choice, depicting it only by means of black white and shades of gray in gradation. I chose to paint the basement of our college with discarded body-forms and the works.
STILL LIFE IN PRIMARY COLORS

Bottle, flowers and a leaf….and a lil ol’ imagination…;)…for the background ofcourse.
SPIDEY ON THE WALL

Introduction to primary colors red, yellow and blue. A composition made using only primary colors solid.
A FAMILY OF BUGS

Bugs made in decreasing size from the centre again in primary colors but this time only using dots of the paint. Fun fun fun!
STILL LIFE IN SECONDARY COLORS

Introduction to secondary colors.Fruits n veggies.
BUTTERFLY DELIGHT

A composition made with shapes using secondary colors and creating something pretty out of it, not blowing my own trumpet tho..:D
DOLPHIN SWIRL

Dots of paint again.
CRACKED OLD LADY

This was the final piece. Using any two colors and making the composition of your choice. Ofcourse using shapes and space.
